Spurs are no longer in the line for signing Barcelona’s Andre Gomes. This may lead to Gomes moving permanently either to his current club Everton or to West Ham United, who are desperate for good signings.
On loan from Barcelona, Gomes played 27 league games for Everton in the 2018-19 season. The versatile midfielder didn’t set the league on fire but was consistently picked by Marco Silva in his toffees squad.
Even though there is every likelihood of Gomes playing in the Premier League next season, Spurs don’t want him anymore. The reason for this withdrawal is not mentioned in the reports about Gomes.
West Ham have already stolen a march on both Spurs and Everton by placing an early bid for the Portuguese. The price is said to be £18 million and is cheap considering that he belongs to Barcelona. That bid by West Ham was low enough for Everton to make a bid of their own.
The reason neither West Ham nor Everton can confirm a deal yet is because Barcelona want somewhere near £30 million for their asset. Gomes’ Barca contract runs out in 2021 so there’s no leverage for any chasers of Gomes.
Spurs have options other than Barcelona’s Andre Gomes
Spurs have decided that rather than being a part of the crowd chasing Gomes, they’d be better of trying to convince Leicester’s James Maddison a shot at the big time with Spurs. The kind of success that the likes of Kane and Alli have had at White Hart Lane can easily convince an up and coming England prospect. Who would you rather have?
