Reports in the last couple of days, including from the BBC claim that Tottenham Hotspur have indeed put in a huge £53 million bid for Argentina international Giovani Lo Celso.
Eriksen has been critical to the Spurs’ game for the past few seasons. His creativity from midfield plays the perfect foil for the hardwork done up front by Kane. The bid makes it clear that Tottenham are seriously exploring options in Eriksen’s position.
23 year old Giovani Lo Celso has 16 goals and six assists to his name in all competitions this season. If put in between players of a greater ability, he may very well be the next Eriksen. The prodigy from Argentina has been in demand lately, with Manchester United said to be in line for him.
Per the reports, Tottenham’s opening bid has been rejected because it doesn’t meet his £88 million release clause. If Pochettino is seriously looking to replace Eriksen, he may well have to go back with a bigger offer, lest United gazump us.
Eriksen’s transfer is imminent since his contract expires in the summer of 2020, and Spurs don’t want to lose their star for free. So they maybe forced to sell the Dane on unfavourable terms. An investment in the squad is mandatory even with the team’s place in the Champions League final as Lucas Moura was the last signing, arriving in 2018 January.
Tottenham will certainly miss Christian Eriksen, he has 35 league appearances and 11 Champions League games this season.
It is perhaps wise for the Spurs to look for replacements before the window is chock full of contenders vying for the signatures of the same players. Eriksen’s transfer away from Spurs will be a setback anyway.
