Unai Emery, who was sacked by Arsenal just a couple of weeks back, has backed Mikel Arteta to succeed in his new role as current Arsenal manager.
Arteta, who was serving at Manchester City as an assistant to Pep Guardiola, was brought in by the club to save Arsenal’s sinking ship and put it back in the right direction.
Despite the doubts over Arteta’s capability to manage at the top level, Unai Emery believes that the former Arsenal midfielder is more than ready to manage in the top flight.
Speaking to the BBC, as cited on the Express, Emery said:
He really is prepared to make that next jump. He has been at Arsenal before, he’s been in the Premier League and he has been working with Pep Guardiola. I do believe this is a good decision and I would also like it to be a good decision.”
It is really nice of Emery to wish Arteta well in his new role. There have been few precedents of sacked managers talking anything, forget about talking well, about their successors.
Credit goes to Emery for remaining very classy and professional despite the way things ended for him at the Arsenal. True gentleman indeed!
