Manchester United have received a transfer boost in their pursuit of Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire, according to the latest reports.
The Red Devils are in the need of at least one world class centre-back who can slot alongside Victor Lindelof as we clear the deadwood from the squad.
We have been linked to Kalidou Koulibaly since forever, but the £100m price tag seems to have put off Ed Woodward and the Manchester United board as they have directed their attention to Harry Maguire.
Currently valued at £80m by Leicester City, Maguire had a phenomenal world-cup which he followed it up with a decent season at the Foxes last term.
While certainly not worth the price tag of £80m, the transfer market is inflated as it is and everyone understands the fact that we need a top-class centre-back in the summer, hence the ridiculous price quoted.
Now, as per claims made by ESPN, United are not put off by Maguire’s price tag and are ready to pursue the transfer at all costs.
Meanwhile, another report claims that Harry Maguire ‘is very open’ to a move to Manchester United, granted we agree on a deal with Leicester City as the centre-back doesn’t want to force a move away, instead would only do it on amicable terms.
Spending £80m and smashing the transfer record for a defender on a 26-year-old Harry Maguire who won’t have any re-sale value, doesn’t seem like the best of decisions from the financial point of view, but Ed Woodward certainly thrives on that.
From the footballing point of view, Maguire would be an upgrade over what we have got at the Carrington and he could be the man to start alongside Victor Lindelof for the next 4-5 years.
Do you think it would be a wise decision to spend that kind of money on Harry Maguire?
