Liverpool squad to face Barcelona may apparently miss one of the most important Liverpool players. Van-Dijk missed the last full-training with squad and is suspected to be carrying an injury.
Before Van-Dijk, a number of players have already been injured. At the time of writing this at least three important players are critically injured: Keita (out for the season), Firmino, Salah.
Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are terrifying as is, facing Barcelona without the main Liverpool center-half could be calamitous. In his absence, Joel Matip will play alongside forgotten man Dejan Lovren. Every boy and his dog in Liverpool know you can’t play against Messi and Suarez with that backline.
The last time Lovren was entrusted the task of stopping a top attack was against Manchester City and he just couldn’t do it. Klopp would not want to repeat mistakes. It is unlikely that he’ll have much choice if Van-Dijk remains injured for the Barcelona game.
If Barcelona score one goal at Anfield, Liverpool will need at least five goals to advance to the final. The odds of scoring five against Barcelona with Salah and Firmino are slim to none: let alone without them.
It is as if the bad just keeps getting worse for Liverpool at just the wrong moment. In the summer, we need someone who can deputize better in the absence of Van-Dijk.
