Virgil van Dijk will be one of the key players to look out for when Liverpool take on Spurs in the summit clash in Madrid.
The 27-year-old has been one of the best players for Liverpool so far this season. Van Dijk won the Premier League Player of the Year due to his overwhelming performance at the heart of the Reds’ defence.
The Dutch defender joined Liverpool in January 2018 for a record-breaking fee of £75 million from Southampton, and since then he has been performing consistently for Jurgen Klopp’s side and has been regarded as the best defender by many.
The Red’s conceded just 22 goals in the Premier League this campaign season and kept 20 clean sheets. They lost only one game and missed out the title on a points difference after accumulating 97 points.
Van Dijk has played a crucial role in reinforcing the Liverpool defence which wasn’t known to be weak.
This season, the Dutch centre-back has appeared in all the Premier League games for Liverpool and has managed to make 199 clearances. He has won 244 duels and 181 aerial battles. He has a 74 per cent of success tackle rate.
Liverpool has faced some of the best clubs of Europe this year in Champions League like Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Barcelona and Van Dijk has stood like a strong wall against some of the finest attacking players in the world.
If Klopp’s men want to add a silverware this season, then van Dijk has to be at his best against Tottenham who has a solid attacking lineup unit and having pulled off some amazing performance in the Champions League this season.
