Lionel Messi won Barcelona the first leg at the Nou Camp but eventually failed at Anfield. A scoreless Barcelona saw Liverpool beat them 4-0 at Anfield and reach the finals of this season’s Champions League.
It was reported that Lionel Messi had to stay after the second-leg as the rest of his team left for the Airport. He had to provide samples for doping tests. So as a result, the Argentine could only leave alone and apparently met with an angry mob of Barcelona fans at the Liverpool airport.
The fans are understood to be angry and rightly so as Barcelona squandered a 3-0 lead for the second season running in the Champions League. Liverpool were infact not even the favourites because two star players in Salah and Firmino were out of action.
Mundo Deportivo, reporting from Spain says that the fans mobbed and hurled derogatory comments at the Argentine superstar. The report goes on to detail what Messi’s response to the was:
“What have I done?”
-Lionel Messi (according to Mundo Deportivo)
It is very clear that Barcelona fans did not like what happened in the semi-final but when Divock Origi and Giorginio Wijnaldum score braces against you, you shouldn’t be asking questions of your attackers. It’s the defenders who deserve the blame.
In a similar turn of events, Tottenham won the game against Ajax over two legs by a Lucas Moura hat-trick. It is finally an all England final of the Champions League on June 1.
