Harry Maguire has changed his mind and decided to join Man United because Manchester City’s interest cooled down in him.
It wasn’t long ago that the 26-year-old was the subject of transfer fight between both the Manchester Clubs with the ‘noisy neighbors’ ready to offer the Foxes £65m for his services.
But with Leicester City demanding a fee worth £80m for Maguire, Pep Guardiola’s side stepped away from the deal.
Harry Maguire, who sang to the tunes of ‘wanting to play Champions League football’, couldn’t get that at the red half of the Manchester, so he started talking about emulating Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at United instead.
That’s all according to the Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth:
“I think this could be looked at in one of two ways,” Sheth said.
“We take it at face value that Maguire does want to follow in the footsteps of his heroes Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, and he’ll be honoured to play for Manchester United.
“That’s one way of looking at it, we just take that at face value.
“Or, is this a sign perhaps that City are cooling their interest?
“You remember the rhetoric before was Maguire wanted Champions League football.
“Now he’s saying he’d be honoured to play for Manchester United to follow in the footsteps of Rio Ferdinand, to follow in the footsteps of Nemanja Vidic.
“Could that have now changed and is Maguire now seeing United as the most viable option, given they’re the ones who seem to be pushing hardest to seal that deal?
“If he keeps saying, and we get information, he wants to play Champions League football and City don’t end up getting him and then he goes to United, it’s not going to look great.
“Now he’s made it clear that United wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all.”
There still 3 weeks left for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sort out a partner for Victor Lindelof, and hopefully, Man United can sign one ASAP, even if it is Harry Maguire.
