Rivalries aside, there’s a very good chance that Manchester United wouldn’t want a Premier League club to win the Champions League and the Europa League. Why, you ask?
Look at this scenario, there’s a very good chance that the Europa League and the Champions League could have an all English final. Meaning, Tottenham vs Liverpool and Chelsea vs Arsenal.
Now, if Tottenham wins the UCL and finishes 5th or 6th in the league, while one of Chelsea or Arsenal wins the UEL and finished 5th or 6th, while United did all the hard work and managed to finish 4th, we won’t qualify for the Champions League next season!
“A maximum of five Premier League teams are eligible for UEFA Champions League qualification.
“In the event that a Premier League club win the UEFA Champions League and another win the UEFA Europa League and neither of these clubs finish in the top four of the Premier League, the club lying fourth in the table will drop into the UEFA Europa League group stage.”
There’s a very low chance of this happening, I mean, there’s no way Tottenham of all team would win the Champions League, right?
